SBVBC Information

What sets Seal Beach Volleyball Club apart?

  • All teams limited to only 10 players (more playing time).
  • Players who attend all practices (or make up every practice that they miss by attending an extra practice with a lower team) are GUARANTEED playing time.
  • Girls’ Club fees are only $1995 for the season (including all practices and all regular-season SCVA tournaments) for players who pay in full by December 1. Payment plans are also available. Uniform packages are available as low as $110.

Girls’ Club fees for the 2011 – 2012 season:

  • Girls’ Fees $1995 for the season
  • Includes all practices and all regular-season tournaments up through the Southern California Regional Championships (June, 2012)
  • Player pays an $400 initial payment to join the club, then $1595 on December 1
  • Payment plans are available: pay the $400 deposit up front, then $400 on December 1, $425 on January 1, $425 on February 1, and $430 on March 1
  • Late payments (more than 10 days after the due date) will incur a $25 late fee.
  • Payment by check is preferred. We do accept credit card payments if that is the only available option, but players and parents need to be aware that this costs our club a minimum of 2% (and up to 4% for “rewards” or “miles” cards) of the transaction amount. For that reason we really want all payments by check if possible. Cash payments are always acceptable, of course. Cash payments are to be made to our club director Rick Evans only (never to a coach), and always get a receipt for cash payments so you (and the club) have a record of the payment.

Tryouts for Boys:

  • SBVBC will not have teams for boys in the 2011 / 2012 season.  The City of Seal Beach will continue to offer Coed Volleyball classes for both boys & girls ages 9 – 14 as part of their Youth and Fitness Program on Sunday afternoons at McGaugh School. Visit the City of Seal Beach web-site for more information.

Uniform Fees and Termination Fee:

  • $110 for three uniform jerseys. Other uniform items are available as well. Uniform packages are chosen by each team
  • Players who leave the club before the end of the season will pay a $100 termination fee and will receive a pro-rata refund of their club dues IF we are able to find a replacement player from outside our club who has similar skills and who is willing to step into the roster spot and take over the dues payments. If we cannot locate that similar replacement player, there will be no refund. Generally we have less trouble locating replacement players before December 1. After December 1, available qualified replacement players are much more difficult to locate.

Practice Information

  • Most teams practice twice a week for 2 hours.
  • Some of our elite teams practice 3 times a week
  • Players on those elite teams pay $300 extra for the season (March 1 dues payment becomes $730 instead of $430).

Practice Scheduling

  • Practice times are flexible. Gym times are available throughout the week.
  • When practice season begins, we use player "conflict calendars" to minimize scheduling practices when the players have other activities.
  • Players are allowed to play another sport in the same season as our club volleyball team, as long as schedule conflicts are split at least 50/50.
  • SBVBC avoids Sunday morning practices for players with religious commitments.
  • If a team is playing in a tournament on Sundays we do require that players make other worship arrangements.
  • Players who will never be available at ANY time of the day on ANY Sundays due to major schedule conflicts should not play club volleyball, as some of the major tournament events will definitely be held on Sundays, and occasional practices for some teams could be held in the afternoon or evening on Sunday as well.

Post-Season Events

  • All players on all teams will be strongly encouraged to attend one of the huge post-season travel tournaments with their team in late June or early July.
  • Participation will be mandatory for all players on our #1 and #2 teams in each age division.
  • Families need to plan well in advance for the extra expense of their team's post-season tournament.
  • Players on our #1 and #2 teams who choose to not play in the post-season tournament with their team will be moved to a lower team as soon as possible so their replacements can become integrated into the team.
  • In most cases, the non-participating player would be moved to the highest available team that will not be playing in a post-season tournament. We have found that fully absorbing a new player into a team roster does take some time, so we will make those roster changes as early in the season as we can.

Playing Time

  • All of our club’s teams are capped at only 10 players per team for playing time purposes.
    • Every player in our club will get significant playing time in the tournaments to gain the skills necessary to move up to the next skill level.
    • We do have a formal playing time policy in our club to ensure that players who work hard at practice WILL get to play in the tournaments:
      • Players who attend all practices (or make up every practice that they miss by attending an extra practice with a lower team) are GUARANTEED playing time in our club.

Yearbook Ad Project

  • Each player must round up $250 in sponsor ads for the club’s annual yearbook. Optionally, the player can just pay the extra $250 herself and create her own page in the yearbook. Or she can just pay the extra $250 and forget the whole sponsor ad thing. One way or the other, the player needs to generate $250 for this project. Players earn a 50% commission on the surplus if their ads total over $250.
    • Our club publishes a yearbook every year in the spring (over 130 pages), including club information, team photos, sponsor ads, and player photo collages.
    • Each player rounds up at least one page of sponsor ads from their family’s business contacts, pediatrician, dentist, insurance agent, real estate agent, local kid-oriented businesses, etc. (at least $250 total per player), or the family can submit their own player photo collage page and pay their own $250.
    • Families who choose to avoid participation in the yearbook ad project altogether can just pay a $250 check instead.
    • Players who collect over $250 of yearbook ads will receive a commission check in the amount of 50% of the amount over $250.
    • “Camera-ready” ad artwork, ad forms (1 per ad), and payment checks are turned in to our club by February 15.
    • Players who want to show potential sponsors what the yearbook looks like can pick up a free sample copy of one of our past yearbooks from their coach or club director.
    • Each ad is submitted with a separate “Yearbook Ad Form” which can be printed from our website under the SBVBC Forms tab.
